ANIÁN Debuts New Shirt Collection for World Water Day Featuring First-of-their-Kind Buttons Crafted from Recycled Oyster Farming Trays

ANIÁN, a circular fashion company based on the west coast of Canada, launched a new shirt collection in anticipation of World Water Day on March 22. A new landmark on the brands journey to circularity, shirts in The Denman Collection feature 100 percent recycled buttons made from farmed oyster basket trays that were collected by Ocean Legacy Foundation and partners in Baynes Sound from shorelines, on Canada’s West Coast. The Denman Collection is now available online and in ANIÁN stores.

“For over a decade, we have been working to bring circular production to the outdoor and fashion worlds,” said Paul Long, ANIÁN Founder. “Instead of making new materials, we recycle existing ones and repurpose them into beautiful and durable garments that are built to last. That’s why we’re so excited about The Denman Collection, a new landmark for us on our journey to circularity. With the help of Ocean Legacy Foundation, we’re now able to reduce our use of conventional plastic through the salvaging and crafting of these unique, first-of-their-kind buttons. Had we not created a second life for these oyster farming trays, they would have ended up in the landfill, on shorelines, or in the ocean.”

The Denman Collection

The Denman Collection features ANIÁN’s lightest woven material ever created - a soft and breathable post-consumer recycled cotton and linen chambray blend. Available in men’s and women’s long sleeve styles and a men’s short-sleeve style - each shirt demonstrates that how we use resources can be changed for the better.

“We are excited about this collaboration with ANIÁN as it showcases an incredible example of circularity within our own backyard and highlights British Columbia’s increasing capacity to better manage its marine plastic resources,” said Chloé Dubois, Executive Director and Co-Founder, Ocean Legacy Foundation. “By working together, it is possible to redesign products such as textiles to reduce waste by reusing resources, reduce plastic microfiber pollution and clean up the coastline. Resource circulation is key to building long-term sustainable solutions that prioritize the well-being of future generations. We hope that projects like this can continue to inspire similar efforts, each button and item of clothing contributing to a cleaner coastline.”

About ANIÁN

The idea for ANIÁN sprung from the belief that the clothes we enjoy in the natural world should not be harming it. With this in mind we've created timeless, lifetime clothing that you can live your life in, and feel good about. The environmental impact of our clothing is something we take seriously. For this reason, ANIÁN transitioned into using entirely recycled natural fibre textiles salvaged from landfills across the globe. For us, where the road for discarded clothing ends, our textile sourcing begins. All this might make it sound like we're trying to change an industry—we are.
