SOMA Public Relations Announces B Corp Certification

VANCOUVER, BC (October 3, 2024) – SOMA Public Relations (“SOMA”), a full-service, boutique PR agency that provides strategic communications services to purpose-driven businesses, announced today its official certification as a B Corporation (“B Corp”). This certification recognizes SOMA’s ongoing commitment to balancing purpose and profit by meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, legal accountability, and public transparency. There are over 500 B Corps in Canada, nearly 200 are based out of the Western provinces.

“SOMA has always used business as a force for good, and we can now announce that we have officially joined the B Corp global community. We always believed our revenue was aligned with our values—and now we have the data to back it up,” said Kari Kylo, Founder and Managing Partner, SOMA Public Relations. “The B Corp assessment revealed what we are made of—purpose. Working with purpose-driven organizations has always inspired and motivated our team.”

With a B Impact Score of 107.3 points — well above the minimum 80 points required for certification — SOMA Public Relations has become the first public relations agency on Vancouver’s North Shore to obtain B Corp certification. The B Impact Assessment that a company needs to complete to achieve certification, evaluates a company’s practices and outputs across five categories: governance, workers, community, the environment, and customers.

“Becoming a B Corporation is more than a certification; it is a decision-making framework for businesses that want to thrive in a rapidly changing world. We are proud to continue using our business platform to drive positive change and strengthen communities across B.C. and beyond,” said Kylo.

B Corp certification is a designation, based on a rigorous assessment, that indicates a business meets the highest standards in three areas:

  • Demonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing a risk review.

  • Make a legal commitment by changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and achieve benefit corporation.

  • Exhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website.
