“Phase three of North Saanich’s Jubilee Park upgrade project has been completed.

Five Star Paving Co. Ltd and Swing Time Distributors worked over the summer on the park improvements, which include inclusive and accessible features such as rubber surfacing.

Funding of $120,000 for the surfacing came from the Growing Communities Fund.

North Saanich was also selected to receive a $30,000 Tire Stewardship BC grant. Thanks to the grant program, 3,366 scrap tires were used in the fabrication of the rubberized surface.

Finishing the development of Jubilee Park and including accessible features were priorities in North Saanich’s 2023 strategic plan.

“On behalf of mayor and council, we are pleased to see the completion of phase three at Jubilee Park playground, a space that is enjoyed and frequented by community members of all ages,” said North Saanich Mayor Peter Jones in a news release. “The enhancements to the playground equipment and structures make it more inclusive and accessible, and it ensures that any child, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy playing at Jubilee Park playground.”

The Saanich Peninsula accessibility advisory committee provided feedback throughout the planning process.

Work on the playground began in November 2017, when phase one and two of the playground were finished.”
