Four modern Coquitlam homes are being saved from demolition and being relocated to Sts’ailes Nation in Agassiz
Today, four modern Coquitlam homes are being saved from demolition and being relocated to Sts’ailes Nation in Agassiz.
The four Coquitlam homes, built in 2016, were slated for demolition to make space for higher density development. Instead of being sent to the landfill, these homes are being rescued, relocated and repurposed by the Sts’ailes Nation in Agassiz, BC. This innovative affordable housing model builds on recent examples led by Renewal Development in partnership with Nickel Bros.
Every year, 2,700 single family single family homes are demolished across Metro Vancouver to make space for higher density development. Industry leaders estimate roughly 700 of these homes slated for demolition each year are in good condition and should be relocated and repurposed.
Innovative solutions are needed to address the critical housing shortage in B.C. These four homes will help Sts’ailes Nation provide good, cost-effective housing to four families currently on the Sts’ailes Nation housing waiting list.
Renewal Development is the lead partner on the project, and the organizations’ goal is to rescue and repurpose 250 homes in the Pacific Northwest each year for vulnerable populations and communities in need.
