Small is Mighty - BC Children’s Hospital Foundation

February was Heart Month! The BC Children's Hospital Foundation raised awareness about the debilitating effects of abnormal heart conditions through the Small is Mighty campaign. We worked with the BCCHF and the Parker family to help share their story on how they thank the BC Children's Hospital for saving their two sons.

“The Parker family of Kamloops wants to share their ongoing journey with Cohen and Nash at the BC Children’s Hospital to help educate other families.

“We want to support and fundraise for BC Children’s Hospital,” Angela said. “And, really, without them and the donors, we wouldn’t have two of our little boys with us.”

Ever since Nash’s open-heart surgery, Angela has been a stay-at-home mom.

Her daily routine includes taking her eldest child, seven-year-old Quinn, and Cohen to school while juggling physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and medical appointments for Nash. She goes jogging and regularly works out at the Kamloops Y to help herself emotionally regulate while living with change and uncertainty.

Emery works long shifts as a truck driver.

“It is hard to go away to work,” he said. “I’m thinking of them every minute of every day. It’s pretty emotional when I’m away. The boys are always on my mind. I work four on, four off, with a 12-hour shift. I leave early and I’m home late. Sometimes I get lucky when they’re up a little bit later than they should be, so I can give them our secret handshake and play … that fills my heart for the next day. I try to really be there and I really look forward to those four days off.””
