CASE STUDY
Light House
We’re in the midst of a national housing crisis, yet thousands of good-quality homes are demolished across Metro Vancouver every year. There’s a better solution and we needed to draw the media’s attention to it.
SOMA’s client Light House wrote a report that outlined a new model for how to protect good-quality homes from being demolished across Metro Vancouver. The solution they wanted to draw attention to was house relocation (house moving), and within the report, they included a list of recommended policy adjustments to help inspire change and bring relocation strategies to the forefront.
SOMA was tasked with developing and executing a strategic communications campaign that would get the word out to British Columbians and Canadians about this alternative method to demolition.
What We Did
SOMA got familiar with the space. We dove deep into the worlds of real estate, construction, and demolition, paying attention to the media stories that were developing from these sectors. Housing affordability across the province and the country was (and still is) a prevalent topic, and we knew we had an important story to tell. We demystified the report and pulled out key findings that we knew the media would latch onto. At the same time, we built up our clients profile by landing interview spots on some of Canada’s most coveted news stations, including Global News and CBC.
