Light House developed a brand new program: the Building Material Exchange program (BMEx), which was created to help reduce waste management costs and the amount of valuable construction materials that end up in landfills.
The program works by matching businesses in and around Nanaimo, Victoria, Cowichan Valley, Duncan and the surrounding islands with excess, unused, or salvaged building and/or design-related materials with other businesses in need of affordable, high-quality, local resources.
What We Did
SOMA was tasked with launching BMEx through a strategic, earned media campaign. We also supported Light House with two in-person, sold-out, BMEx challenge events (Nanaimo and Victoria) and negotiated sponsorship packages and partnerships on behalf of the organization - going beyond a traditional PR scope to meet our clients’ objectives. In the end, we coordinated over 9 interviews for our client, including an in-person interview with The Canadian Press, which when published, was syndicated over 167 times.

“Thanks to SOMA’s strategic and well-planned outreach efforts, the BMEx program achieved remarkable visibility, garnering widespread media coverage across various platforms. Their expertise secured prominent features on major news outlets, meaningful coverage in local newspapers, and valuable mentions in key industry-specific publications. In addition, this level of exposure has resulted in several new BMEX form entries for Light House.”
